Mildred Little Obituary

High Point

Mildred Beatrice Harris Little was born on December 3, 1928, and entered the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, June 30, 2018. She would have celebrated her 90th birthday this year. Born in North Wilkesboro, North Carolina, she was the youngest of 9 children of Rev. Charles C. and Bessie Petty Harris.

Mildred (affectionately known as “Mig”) was an excellent student, skipping the first grade and winning the spelling bee in seventh grade. She attended Bennett College in Greensboro, NC, graduating with a degree in Home Economics at the age of 19 in 1948.

Shortly after graduating, Mildred moved to Pensacola, Florida and began teaching Home Economics. She met and married her husband of 22 years, Dr. Perry P. Little, Sr. They raised their family of four children in High Point, North Carolina.

Mildred continued teaching in the High Point school system, primarily at William Penn High School. She was a long time and faithful member of First Baptist Church on Washington Street. As a member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and a leader with the Girl Scouts of America, she served her community in a most dedicated way.

Mildred had a strong faith in Jesus Christ and the Gospel. She loved music (especially organ music and hymns) and sought to love everyone. She was an awesome cook and enjoyed providing wonderfully delicious meals for family and friends. She dedicated her life to serving her family and others in need. Her love of God has been seen and felt by her family and friends all over the United States. She had a very special way of expressing her love to others by sending birthday greetings for years. People from all over have expressed their gratitude for receiving birthday cards from her for years and years. It was her special expression of love and concern for others.

Mildred was preceded in death by her mother, Bessie, her father, Charlie, her sisters, Loree, Lilly, Louise, and Theophra, her brothers, Dwight, Talmadge, J.C., and Russell, her daughter, Rhonda Gale Little Ingram in June 1971, and former husband, Dr. Perry P. Little, Sr. in April 2003. Her sister, Theophra (affectionately known as Phoaf), whom she was particularly close to, passed away just two days prior to Mildred’s passing, on June 28th.

Mildred is survived by her devoted children: Judith Dianne Little Mills (Dwight), Melanie Patrice Little Casey (Carey), Perry Philemon Little, Jr. (Janice); grandchildren Christopher Mills (Carlyn), Jessica Mills, Jonathan Mills, Christie Hammond (Shunton), Patrice Perkins (John), Marcellus Casey (Stephanie), Chance Casey, Perry “Joshua” Little, III (Maxine), “Lil’” Perry Little, III, James Little, Paris Little, and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorials to be given to Lawndale Christian Community Church, www.lawndalechurch.org.

A Celebration of Life will take place at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, July 14, 2018 at Memorial United Methodist Church, 1327 Cedorw Drive. The family will receive visitors and friends at 10:00 to 10:30 a.m.
