Mr. James Larry Smith, 76, transitioned on October 14, 2019. James was born on August 17, 1943 to Craven Smith and Ida Mae Miller Smith in High Point, North Carolina.
A longtime Thomasville resident, he was a graduate of Church Street High School. He was known for his many talents that included singing, football, and playing the trombone.
A man of faith, he was a member of Central United Methodist Church where he served as a deacon and trustee. He was a big 49ers fan, enjoyed bowling and loved spending time with his family and friends.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter, Sherita Ellison.
Surviving relatives include his beloved wife, Nancy R. Smith; sons, Dwayne Smith, Corey Smith, and Michael Sanders; brother, Jerome Smith; 8 grandchildren, Rishaun Joyce, Marquise Joyce, Tyesha Gant, Rayven Blackmon, Tyronda Williams, Ronnie Staton, Candice Staton, and Anthony Staton; niece, Leah Smith; nephew, Phillip Smith, a host of other relatives and devoted friends.
A Celebration of Life will be given at 1p.m., Saturday, October 19, 2019 at Central United Methodist Church, 115 James Avenue, Thomasville, North Carolina. The family will receive visitors and friends at the church from 12:30 to 1p.m.
