Mrs. Hazel Smith Alexander, 77, a resident of 1221 Delk Dr., died Wednesday, May 4, 2005, at High Point Regional Hospital.

Mrs. Alexander was born January 25, 1928 in High Point, to Nishel Alphonso Smith Sr. and Cornelias Young Smith, who both preceded her in death. She graduated from Cardoza High School in Washington, D.C., earned an Associate Degree from N.C.A.&T State University, and was a member of N.C.A&T Alumni, High Point chapter. Living most of her adult life in High Point, she was formerly employed with the High Point Housing Authority, and retired from Sears as a customer service consultant. A faithful member of St. Stephen A.M.E. Zion Church, she served with the Missionary Circle. Two brothers, Nishel Alphonso Smith Jr., and Thomas A. Holly also preceded her in death.

Surviving relatives include one son, Paul T. Alexander and wife Lincene, of High Point; two daughters, Patricia Elaine Alexander of Silver Springs MD., and Elaine Laverne Alexander of High Point; five grandchildren; five great grandchildren; three sisters, Grace Dumas of Fort Washington, MD, Gloria Jean Minor and husband Eugene of Clinton, MD, and Alice White of Washington, D.C.; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, other relatives, and friends.

Funeral will be Monday, 10:30 am at St. Stephen A.M.E. Zion Church, 1012 Leonard Ave. by the Rev. Dr. William M. White, Jr. Burial will follow at Oakwood Memorial Park. Family visitation will be Monday, 10:00 am at the church, and other times at the home of Ms. Elaine Alexander, 2912 McLaurin Ct. Haizlip Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
