Mr. Charles Otis Alexander, 55, of 1310 Kimery Dr., died Friday, February 6, 2009 at Hospice Home at High Point.

“Duce Cat”, as he was fondly known, was born March 30, 1953 in High Point, the son of Walter Alexander, Sr. and Mary Lee Hall Alexander. He attended the city’s public schools, and was a 1973 graduate of T. Wingate Andrews High School. His outstanding athletic talents earned him the starting quarterback position at Andrews, and he also served as life guard at Washington Terrace Park. As a sports enthusiast, he participated in several sports, excelling in swimming and football. Pool playing was also a favorite activity. For most of his life “Duce Cat” was a resident of High Point, but lived in Bennettsville, South Carolina for 10 years before returning to his native High Point just four months ago. He was formerly employed as a general helper at the furniture market.

His parents, and a brother, Gary, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his long-time and devoted companion of 28 years, Betty Robinson of High Point; four sons, Rashad Harpe, Nickey Harpe, Charles Shawn Robinson, and Antwan McClean; four daughters, Nicole Harpe, Stacey Walls, Tonya Tomlin, and Charita Burke; five grandchildren; two brothers, Dr. Willie James Alexander and wife, Rose, of Wadesboro, NC, and Walter Alexander, Jr. and wife, Barbara, of Baldwin, Long Island, NY; four sisters, Elizabeth Robbins and Betty Jean Alexander, both of High Point, Susan Lavern Alexander of Kernersville, NC, and Patty Lynn Alexander of Far Rockaway, NY; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

A Memorial Service will be held 6:00 p.m. Thurs., Feb. 12, 2009 at Pearson Memorial AME Church, 805 East Washington Dr., where Rev. Gwendolyn Benjamin is host pastor. Dr. Willie James Alexander will preside and Minister Timothy Ingram will deliver the eulogy. In lieu of flowers contributions my be directed to: American Cancer Society, 4-A Oak Branch Dr., Greensboro, NC 27407.
