Mickey McDonald Obituary

Mr. Mickey Rooney McDonald, age 83, of Randleman, North Carolina, Rooney was born on December 31st 1940, in Troy, North Carolina to Rosa Lee McDonald and Samuel Gaines. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend to many.  Rooney attended Peabody High School in Troy, North Carolina, and later dedicated 25 years of his life as a shipping and receiving clerk at Mr. Jeans. He loved fishing, hunting and developed a love for playing baseball to pass time. After retiring, he found joy in spending time at Charley's, the neighborhood store. There he would reconnect with old friends and make new ones. Rooney also became skilled with lottery tickets and enjoyed daily "scratching". He enjoyed watching baseball, UNC Chapel Hill Basketball and supported the Carolina Panthers every Sunday.

He quietly departed from this earthy life on February 29th, 2024 at his home surrounded by his loved ones. Rooney is preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Lee McDonald, his parents Rosa Lee McDonald and Samuel Gaines, his sister Helen, and his brothers Boysie and Sandy McDonald.

Rooney is survived by his children: Melissa of Charlotte, Shelia (John) of Sophia, Demetria, and Clevon of Randleman, his sister Rebecca Lilly of Mt. Gilead (Dorseph) and sister-in-law, Regena Green. Rooney's memory will forever be cherished by his grandchildren: Asont'i, Cassidy, Nina, Ethan, Bailey Rose, Haven and a host of nieces and nephews including Chasity, Justin, Justina and Jaylan who he had a special connection with. He also had a special bond with his Aunt Blannie Gaines and looked forward their weekly conversations. Rooney enjoyed his weekly visits from Charles Hill.  Mickey Rooney McDonald's presence will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
